As Content Manager at digital publication and marketing platform, I managed our freelance writing community, in addition to our social media communities. Social media was a crucial part of our distribution strategy to drive new and returning readers.


Now overseeing the entire content lifecycle at as Editorial Director, I produced and distributed an original video series featuring Facebook expert Mari Smith called the "Mari Minute," which educated small business owners on how to best use the platform in their business.


A month after moving to LA for a new job at a big media company, my division was unexpectedly shutdown. I had been freelancing on the side, so I decided to take the leap into business on my own. Citrine Marketing was founded in July, site launched in September and we landed our first official retainer client mid-October.


After working with more than 30 clients, I started the process of forming Social With Shayna, a consulting service, in order to help and empower more small business owners to use social media to reach, convert and

retain customers.

Signing up for Facebook in her dormroom in the fall of 2004 at UC Irvine, she had no idea that this platform would change the world—and be the place she spent her career telling the stories she was learning to write as a Literary Journalism major.


Fifteen years later, Shayna has spent the last decade working in and around social media. After spending seven years working in startups and digital marketing companies, Shayna left the corporate world in 2016 to open her own boutique social media marketing agency, Citrine Marketing, Inc.

Through her experience of working with creative entrepreneurs and small business owners, Shayna Marks noticed a frustrating trend.


Not only were these productive and creative people totally overwhelmed by the day-to-day of social media, they were getting stuck because of it. She realized that the process she built within her agency for successfully managing clients could work for these busy entrepreneurs—and Social With Shayna was born.
